In response to an RTI query by activist Karim Ansari, the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has clarified the tuition fee structure for unaided private and cooperative junior colleges. The prescribed fee for the first year is Rs 1,760 and for the second year is Rs 1,940. Additionally, aided junior colleges charge Rs 880 and Rs 970 for the respective years.
Despite these regulations, some private colleges are charging significantly higher fees, often without providing receipts. For example, a student reported paying Rs 2.5 lakh annually for an MPC course, including hostel fees, while another student in Dilsukhnagar paid Rs 1 lakh in cash. The BIE has also prohibited the sale of uniforms and study materials on college premises, yet violations persist, with some colleges charging extra under various pretexts.
The lack of stringent enforcement has led to a wide range of fees being imposed on students, creating financial strain for many families.
