The BJP leadership has once again exposed its double standards when it comes to freedom of speech. Comedian Kunal Kamra’s recent video criticizing BJP leaders sparked outrage among saffron party members, who immediately demanded action against him. However, the same BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have been silent when their own party members, Hindutva extremists, and right-wing preachers openly abuse and attack Muslims, Islam, and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
This is not about protecting religious sentiments or maintaining decorum in public discourse. It is about BJP’s selective outrage—protecting their own while encouraging hate speech against minorities.
BJP’s Hypocrisy on Freedom of Speech
The BJP and its leaders claim to stand for free speech, but their actions prove otherwise.
When Muslims Are Targeted, BJP Remains Silent
Hate mongers like Yati Narsinghanand, Bajrang Muni, and Anand Swaroop routinely abuse Islam and call for violence against Muslims, yet no action is taken against them.
Despite multiple FIRs against them, these hate preachers roam freely, often sharing stages with BJP leaders at various events.
BJP IT cell members, social media influencers, and even MPs have made derogatory remarks against Islam, but there is no condemnation from BJP.
But When BJP Faces Criticism, They Play the Victim
The moment Kunal Kamra mocked BJP leaders, the same politicians who defend hate speech cried foul, claiming that freedom of speech has limits.
Yogi Adityanath even stated:
“Your freedom of expression cannot be used to make personal attacks on others.”
But where was this concern when his own party members made personal attacks on Muslims?
This selective application of “freedom of speech” shows BJP’s hypocrisy and its real agenda—spreading hate for political gain while silencing critics.
The Normalization of Hate Speech Against Muslims
The BJP government has created an ecosystem where anti-Muslim hate speech is normalized:
TV debates are filled with anti-Muslim rhetoric, and BJP-backed channels like ANI and Republic TV promote divisive narratives.
Social media is flooded with BJP IT cell propaganda, portraying Muslims as a threat.
Chapri-style BJP leaders in various states use Islamophobia to gain votes.
Yet, when someone from outside BJP criticizes them, they suddenly remember laws against hate speech and personal attacks.
Why This Double Standard is Dangerous
This two-faced approach to free speech is not just hypocritical—it is dangerous for India’s democracy.
Selective outrage weakens trust in the justice system: If BJP leaders can freely insult Islam while others get arrested for mocking BJP, it creates two different laws in the country—one for Hindutva extremists and another for everyone else.
Encouraging hate speech leads to real-world violence: The rise in communal attacks, mob lynchings, and bulldozer politics is directly linked to hate speech against minorities.
India’s international reputation is suffering: Reports from USCIRF, UN, and Amnesty International have repeatedly criticized India’s handling of religious freedom and growing intolerance.
Conclusion: BJP Must Be Held Accountable
If BJP leaders truly believe in freedom of speech, they should:
Take action against Hindutva extremists who openly attack minorities.
Stop using religion as a political tool to divide India.
Apply the same rules to everyone—if Kunal Kamra is wrong for mocking BJP leaders, then hate mongers abusing Islam should also face strict action.
Until BJP ends its hypocrisy, their fake outrage over free speech must be exposed. India needs real democracy, not selective justice for BJP’s benefit.
