This concerning revelation underscores the pervasive influence of misinformation and its potential to exacerbate social divisions and biases. The findings underscore the critical importance of combating fake news through fact-checking and promoting responsible journalism to foster an environment of truth and inclusivity.

BOOM reportedly published 1,190 fact-checks between January 2, 2023 and December 31, 2023. Out of these, 15.4 percent or 183 fact-checks were claims targeting Muslims.

Among the false claims targeting Muslims, at least 84.2 percent were shared with the intent of spreading “demographic anxiety”.

The report said at least 100 fact-checks were related to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The data analysis provided by Boom Fact Check highlights the urgent need for concerted efforts to address the spread of fake news and its detrimental effects on societal harmony. By acknowledging and confronting this bias, society can work towards creating a more equitable and informed public discourse. It is imperative for both media organizations and individuals to remain vigilant against the propagation of false narratives and uphold the principles of accuracy and fairness in reporting.
