Former Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, KT Rama Rao, attributed Hyderabad’s resilience against severe flooding during recent heavy rains to the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP). Initiated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, the SNDP was designed to tackle the city’s recurring flooding issues. Despite the relentless downpours, low-lying areas were spared from the usual waterlogging, a success Rama Rao credited to the program’s comprehensive approach.
#GHMC’s Strategic Nala Dvpmt Program (#SNDP) on the lines of #SRDP to deal with all Nala issues in Hyderabad is on fast track & the works are happening on a war-footing.

Under the SNDP, 60 major infrastructure projects worth 985 crores were undertaken, focusing on stormwater and sewage system improvements. The development of 36 key drainage channels played a crucial role in preventing waterlogging in vulnerable areas. This proactive measure, executed without financial support from the central government, showcased the effectiveness of the SNDP. Residents from flood-prone zones acknowledged the program’s impact, emphasizing how it safeguarded their communities from the heavy rains.
So glad to hear that most of Hyderabad isn’t inundated after the heavy rains yesterday. SNDP(Strategic Nala Development Program) brought about transformative change in Hyderabad, with a clear purpose of systematic reorganization and accountability.

Rama Rao expressed gratitude to the engineers and departments involved, highlighting their relentless efforts in bringing the BRS government’s vision for Hyderabad to life. The success of the SNDP is seen as a transformative change for the city, ensuring systematic reorganization and accountability in infrastructure development.
BRS spokesperson Putta Vishnuvardhan Reddy and other citizens echoed this sentiment, sharing images of SNDP projects on social media and praising the previous government’s dedication to protecting Hyderabad from floods.
